Taking on the Goliath of Football Technology

When I first started PreSnap, I never thought we’d be able to compete with Hudl. I thought to myself, “How in the world could a three-person team even hold a candle to a company valued at $250 million with 3,500 employees?”

It turns out the answer is pretty simple. We just care more.

As we progressed in building PreSnap, it became obvious to me that Hudl cared about one thing: making money.

You’re probably wondering, “Isn’t that the point of a company?” For some, it might be, but for me, PreSnap is about more than just making money. It’s about building and delivering beautiful products that football coaches and players love to use and that make their lives easier. It’s about changing the game of football through insanely great technology.

I think if anyone can resonate with the concept of prioritizing having a direct impact on the world over making money, it’s football coaches. I’m willing to bet that 90% of football coaches aren’t in it for the money. They’re in it because they love the game. They love the mental chess match on the turf, but most importantly, they love seeing the visible change and impact they have on the lives of young men.

Meanwhile, Hudl has moved on from the great game of football. Over the years, it has become evident to me and many others that Hudl doesn’t care about football. They care about soccer because that’s where the money is. Instead of innovating and creating new solutions for coaches and players in football, they decided to mark up their storage prices to squeeze more money out of our game. This is wrong. I’m tired of seeing our beautiful game be used as a cash cow. Our game deserves better technology, and we’re going to build it.

How are we going to do this? We’re going to listen to coaches and build what they want and what makes their lives easier. We’re going to build beautiful products at the intersection of amazing design and advanced technology. Most importantly, we will always care about this game and will do anything to do right by it.
